SunCoal Industries delivers energy from biomass. The company thereby develops the renewable carbon economy. Through utilising the natural carbon cycle, the product SunCoal® delivers a realistic contribution to climate protection. Therefore, the company is sustainably confronting climate change already today. With this goal the company was founded in 2007. The HTC-Process is implemented by the company through the particularly highly energy efficient CarboREN® method.
Based on the results of this research project, SunCoal Industries plans to commission a pilot plant. In preparation for this, a smaller pilot plant will be put into operation at the end of 2008. Next to the pilot plant will be incorporated the hitherto research activities of SunCoal Industries in addition to batch experiments and laboratory autoclaves in volumes of 50 to 5000 ml. Over 50 various types of biomass (e.g. woodchips, straw, lop, leaves, grass, bagasse) and waste materials (for example sludge, lignin from bioethanol production etc.) will be tested with regard to their applicability as a suitable HTC substrate. Under systematic variations of the reaction conditions, mass and energy balances as well as product qualities will be determined..
