The PIK is a member of the Leibniz-Association, which is dedicated to the integrated analysis on the interactions between human society and the natural environment. It is internationally recognised as a leading institute in the areas of sustainability research, integrated systems analysis and adaptive management. In the last few years, besides climate modeling other competences have been established in the field of endogenous growth models, energy sector modeling, land use and hydrology.
The Project Coordinator for the PIK is Dr. Hermann Lotze-Campen. He leads the Earth System Analysis research team for the working group on Land Use Modeling, which is focused on the climate impacts on agriculture, as well as the consequences of increased bioenergy usage for land and water resources. The project will also be supported by the research groups Climate Impacts and Vulnerabilities (Prof. Wolfgang Lucht) and Sustainable Solutions (Prof. Ottmar Edenhofer).
